Miss Maudie believes that the rest of the county aren’t brave enough, to stand up against the trouble in Maycomb. I believe that Miss. Maudie is saying that no one is able to stand out from the rest, and everyone is being a sheep.
‘I simply want to tell you that there are some men in this world who were born to do our unpleasant jobs for us’. From this we can see that Lee is trying to show people’s views are different throughout Maycomb. From the quotation you can see that Miss. Maudie thinks that everyone isn’t brave enough like Atticus to stand out fir the crowd and defend Tom Robinson. Jem says ” It’s like bein’ a caterpillar in a cocoon, that’s what it is”, from this Miss.Maudie can relate to this as she is like a wise women in the town. The second quotation is a metaphor saying that the whole town are racist but they’re blind in how bad the racism is in Maycomb, until Atticus stands up and make a point. Lee uses repetition in the passage, showing that we are all following not making a difference to the town. She calls everyone else ‘us’ this refers that everyone else isn’t standing out apart from Atticus. Lee makes Maudie refer to everyone as us not being specific but she talks about Atticus.
